OK, I have a confession to make. I love jerky more than anything. It doesn’t matter what kind. Beef, turkey, deer, alligator, uh.. you get the point. I rarely buy it much though because of the price. Who wants to pay over five dollars for a tiny bag of beef jerky?
Not me. One day I came across the Nesco FD-75PR Food Dehydrator. I have never tried to make my own jerky before, much less owned a food dehydrator, so I decided what the heck, I’ll give it a go. I got the meat preped and ready to go the night before my brand new shiny Nesco food dehydrator was delivered to my door the next day. To my surprise, the jerky came out great!
Be sure to keep a close eye on it though. The manual said it could take six to twelve hours to cook. After about three hours, mine was cooked to perfection. I guess depending on how thick or thin you slice your meat could play a big factor in your cook time. The Nesco food dehydrator was quiet when running. It sounded similar to a computer fan if I had to compare it to something. Everything came out perfect even though I didn’t really try to place the meat all that evenly accross the pan.
I will definitely be getting good use out of this thing. I just hope that it holds up to many years of use. From looking at the build quality of this thing, I don’t think I have anything to worry about. I can’t believe it was this easy to make such great beef jerky in such a short amount of time. One quick note: I use mine to primarily make jerky, but this thing has many uses; think fruit, veggies, and astronaut meals for hiking and camping.
There is also a great recipe book that is included with the machine that is full of great recipes, so I promise you that you will not be limited to just making jerky. If you are in the market for a food dehydrator, look no further. You will be more than pleased with your purchase of a Nesco food dehydrator.
